Merry Christmas 2011!
posted by James Kay

In just a few booze-fuelled days it will be Christmas, a crazy time in Japan, usually characterised by "bonenkai", end of year drinking parties, which in turn lead to apocalyptic scenes of drunken madness on the streets of Tokyo and little piles of vomit on every other corner. The day itself is usually celebrated with a classy supper at KFC, which is something I dearly wish I was making up.

2011 has been a crazy year for Score Studios; so much has happened, we've grown, things are on the horizon, etc. 2012 should be an interesting, active year for us, and we promise that this time we will do a better job of staying more active in the social networks. Though after our move to our new offices in Yoyogi we've been pretty busy, we have started a Google+ page, have started updating our Facebook page again, tweeted and blogged again, all that malarkey. We have some cool and interesting things we're working on but we'll tell you about those in good time.

We hope that you all have a lovely Christmas, wherever you are, eating whatever choice of fried fastfood chicken you might enjoy, and very best wishes for the new year!

Spam!

As we're busy setting up our new office we haven't been able to keep our forum software up to date, causing a flood of spam these last few weeks. For the moment we have disabled new registrations until we update our software, apologies for that. If you need to get in touch with us, try commenting on our Google+ company page or our Facebook page, where we will also be posting photos of the new Score HQ.

Googleplussed

Like so many today we have started a Google+ company page. If you are a Google+ user, add us to a circle to keep up to date on the upcoming barrage of sudden and long overdue social network activity as Score Studios is going through some changes these hectic final months of the year.
If you haven't yet, we also have a Facebook page and a Twitter account, as well as Flickr and YouTube channels. In recent months they've been gathering some dust as we have been hunkering down working hard and keeping busy, but I promise, come December and onward we will be breathing some new life in these ailing social network profiles of ours, so keep your eyes open!

Score Studios, another "NewGame+"
posted by James Kay - (1 reply)

Last week Karl added to his party a new level 1 rogue called Luisa. Mother and daughter are doing well, and Karl has been strutting around all proud and stuff. Congratulations to him and his wife and good luck to Luisa; we look forward to her contributions to our Skype chats as his first daughter has already been doing. We're now one third on the way to our very own Score infant footie league/D&D raid party!

August update
posted by James Kay

It's August already - time flies. It's just over a month until the Tokyo Game Show so needless to say we are being kept busy. Sadly that also means there is very little to report on. Behind the scenes, whenever we can make the time, we are working on continued support for Piczle Lines and DM Tools, though our priorities are elsewhere right now, so it's hard to commit to anything specific.

Tokyo is hot and sweaty these days, especially when it's rainy. Humidity is terrible and as an overweight European it's hard for me to even step outside without sweating. Last week also saw two sizeable earthquakes. It's been a while since I felt earthquakes big enough to be noticed, we've had a little grace period since the March quake's aftermath, but two big ones in one week has my heart rate back up.

All of Score Studios is now on Google+. We're waiting to be able to create a corporate page for the company, currently we're all just on there as individuals. I am quite liking it myself, as it's easy to follow a lot of game industry types. Combined what the fact I have so very little to report these days my Google+ (and Paul's) is seeing a lot more action than my Facebook and Twitter accounts, which are languishing somewhat.

Finally I want to give a little shout-out to fellow indie developers. You may have noticed a new ad banner in rotation on our site (or maybe not). It's for the excellent To-Fu: The Trials of Chi for iOS by HotGen. It's a great little puzzler with tons of character and I highly recommend you check it out! Secondly, the always interesting Pickford Bros. have finally released their Magnetic Billiards on iOS too. I was lucky enough to play it during beta, for which they were kind enough to add me to the credits, but even without that I'd still have recommended it! It's a great tactical puzzle/billiards game with extra modes and tables unlocked through IAP. Get it now!

As for Score, we will probably report from the Tokyo Game Show and all the happenings that week, but until then we have our hands full. Hopefully we can report on more news before then, but frankly there aren't enough hours in the day...

Piczle Lines update released
posted by James Kay

Image
Today an update to Piczle Lines is available from the AppStore. Go to the AppStore on your device and download it from the "updates" tab, or get it directly from here.

This update now includes Apple Gamecenter functionality. The awards you previously got in-game from the awards screen from the main menu now also work as Gamecenter achievements. After updating just start the game and log into Gamecenter and the awards you have already received will automatically be turned into achievements; the same goes for any awards you might still get after this.

If you don't have Gamecenter, though, don't worry. In that case the original awards screen will remain as it is, so you can still challenge yourself to complete all the puzzles!
